Nine active Red Cross members (including Jörg & Anett Zimmermann in a dual role from the Weinfreundehelfene.V. association) visited the Italian sister association of the Red Cross in the partner town Fondi with a delegation from the town of Dachau and got to know an exciting, highly committed group. The Red Cross group had traveled to southern Italy to establish initial contact within the framework of the Dachau-Fondi town partnership.
President of the Croce Rossa of Fondi, Arianna Carnevale, gave an impressive account of her work. The thirty, all-volunteer Red Cross employees in Fondi were stretched to the limit during the coronavirus pandemic. Barracked in a monastery for over three months, they provided vital aid in their completely sealed-off home town. The Red Cross volunteers are also at the forefront of earthquake relief and caring for boat refugees on Lampedusa. The Dachau Red Cross members were impressed by the Fondians' RK bike - equipped with blue lights and first aid equipment, it does a good job in the narrow streets of the historic old town. Like everywhere else, financing the Red Cross team is a problem in Fondi. The team has to make ends meet with just three supporting members, grants from the local authority and individual donations. They all spontaneously declared their support for the Red Cross in Fondi.
The visit is an important sign for BRK District Managing Director Dennis Behrendt and the Chairman of Weinfreundehelfen e.V. Jörg Zimmermann: “It is important to maintain our network beyond Germany”.
Support knows no borders.

When Jörg Zimmermann, learned about the flood disaster in the Ahr valley, he immediately realized that immediate help was needed:
“The people there urgently needed support and we didn't want to stand by and do nothing. At short notice, I set off for the Ahr valley to support friends, winegrowers and acquaintances on the spot. With a car full of relief supplies, including food, clothing, urgently needed materials and donations, we wanted to make a contribution. On site, I realized how great the need was. I helped where I could, lent a hand and spoke to those affected. It was moving to see how the community stuck together despite the difficult situation. My personal commitment, the donations of money and relief supplies were a small step towards providing people with support. Every bit of help counts and I hope that we can overcome the challenges together.”
